Academically Gifted--4th & 5th Grade AG Services

Purpose:

The purpose of the Academically Gifted Program is to provide an appropriately challenging educational program for students who perform, or show potential for performing, at remarkably high levels of accomplishment.

Service Delivery:

The AG program provides a wide variety of services and settings for indentified AG students.  The services are designed to modify, supplement, and build on the academic skills and knowledge attained at all grade levels.

In 4th and 5th grade, I consult and collaborate with classroom teachers.   Identified students receive services within the regular classroom setting through appropriate content differentiation.  Additionally, some students receive services through resource classes.

4th Grade AG resource students come to me for classes twice a week for two 45 minute periods – alternating approximately 4 weeks for Language Arts and 4 weeks for Mathematics.

5th Grade AG resource students come to me for Language Arts twice a week for 45 minute periods during SLAM time (enrichment/intervention block) – Mondays and Fridays.   I team teach the math enrichment group, along with a regular 5th grade classroom teacher, in the math classroom twice a week for 50 minutes.  The students in 5th grade are flexibly grouped for math instruction amongst the five 5th grade teachers.  Students who have mastered the objectives for a particular unit work on enrichment/extension projects and challenging real-world application mathematic activities.

AG ACRONYMS:

DEP (Differentiated Educational Plan) - Indicates each students area of identification, level of service, and how he/she is served in the classroom and/or pullout program.
IISP (Individual Student Profile) - Assessment and informal evaluation data for your child.

HOW ARE THE STUDENTS EVALUATED ON THE DIFFERENTIATED EDUCATIONAL PLANS (DEP’’S) THAT YOU RECEIVE?

In conjunction with the classroom teacher, the AG Teacher evaluates students on their levels of discussions, elaboration, creative thought, written work/quality products, contributions, motivation, task commitment, and use of resources/technology.  Each AG identified student will receive an ‘S’, ‘O’, or ‘P’ next to each indicator on the progress report.
O = OUTSTANDING
S = SATISFACTORY
P = PRACTICE NEEDED
