Academically Gifted--Programs for K-2nd Grade

Collaboration:

In Kindergarten through fifth grade, I support the classroom teachers through consultation and collaboration.  I work with classroom teachers to help provide appropriate challenging resources.  I also coach and model to classroom teachers differentiation practices for the classroom.

K.I.T.S. (Kids into Thinking)

The K.I.T.S are unit activities based on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and correlate with what the students are learning in school.  These activities were created for students working at a high level of achievement and to promote critical thinking.  The students work in small groups, usually with a trained parent volunteer or specialist teacher (once a week for 45 min.), on the activities.  The K.I.T.S are available for students in kindergarten through 3rd grade.

Consultation:

In the rare instances when a student is identified as Academically Gifted before third grade, I work closely with the child’s teacher to ensure that the student’s academic needs are being met.
